David Jordan: Executive Director,


Mr. David Jordan, co-founder of the WGY6 organization and a proud 12-year Veteran with the National Guard.  His service began as a PFC (Private First Class), earning his way to ranking as SGT (Sergeant).  David served as a communications Soldier and Communications Signal Maintenance Chief for a Signal Brigade while with the 138th Signal Company, and served as a combat medic with a medical company during one combat tour to Iraq.  While in the military, he became a certified Army instructor who in turn conducted survival skills training of hundreds of Soldiers to prepare them for their pending combat tours

David has amassed an excess of 20 years of combined management experience that spans over his military and civilian careers.  With more than 25 years of customer service in a variety of industries, David is well versed in communication and presentation to small and large audiences that include peers, leaders and citizens alike. 

Mr. Jordan gained business and accounting skills during his time overseeing housekeeping and laundry staff of multi-bed nursing home facility.  In this role he was accountable for following and applying strict budgetary guidelines to include every aspect of the business from scheduling through inventory supplies and costing. 

Mr. David Jordan brings one more special attribute to the table; he himself like so many veterans, experienced homelessness.  He knows firsthand what it feels like to be homeless and the obstacles and challenges our veterans face.  He fully appreciates that every veteran’s situation is different, however with his unique experience he is best equipped to reach out to these men and women on a very personal level that most others are not able.    

David earned and cherishes 2 Army Commendation Medals for services, 1 Army Achievement Medal, 1 Army Good Conduct Ribbon, and the Iraq Campaign Ribbon.

Ms. Angela Messerlie, Director of Veteran Programs

Angela Messerlie, co-founder of WGY6, and 10-year Army veteran.  As a medic in the Army, she was assigned in multi levels of care, from Emergency Room to Family practice care.  During her time in the Army, Angela began her pursuit of a college education to better advance her career.  

Upon leaving the military, she experienced and became well versed in dealing with challenges of college and the red tape and endless paperwork that accompanied same.  Angela became a quick expert in understanding the enrollment process, gaining access, and how the most effective and gainful use the G.I. Bill and the Post 9/11 G.I. Bill.  She continued to master these skills as she pursued her education and went on to graduate with a Bachelor’s of Science in Anthropology. This education afforded her with a tremendous understanding of sociology, people and their behaviors and provided her the tools to develop and demonstrate strong and effective interpersonal communication skills.  

 Ms. Messerlie’s first hand experience in starting and finishing a degree program left a lasting impression where she had made it her goal for education among veterans to be a commonplace occurrence; she believes that all Veterans should be able to achieve their educational goals without a struggle. 

Ms. Angela Messerlie has earned 4 Army Commendation Medals, 3 Army Achievement Medals, 2 Good Conduct Medals, 2 Overseas Service medals, as well as the Korean Service Medal.

Mr. James Lopez, Director of Housing Assistance


James Lopez, WGY6 co-founder, and 31-year Veteran with the U.S. Navy and Naval Reserves.  An E-3 (Seaman) at enlistment, James advanced to the rank of E-5 (Petty Officer 2nd Class).  While serving he was a Seabee with the Amphibious Battalion Construction One as well as Illustrator Draftsman with the VP-31 Patrol Squadron.  Later he would go on to serve with the JAG and with the NLSO in Corpus Christi and various other NLSO’s.  He completed his 20 years in the Naval Reserves.

Mr. Lopez continued his Military career for an additional 11 years as an E-6 (Staff Sergeant) with the Texas Army National Guard.  During his time in the Guard, he served in the capacity of Legal Specialist (27D) and Nuclear Chemical Specialist (54D).  James served one tour in Iraq 2005 with Trial Defense Service.  While in the military, he was also a certified Navy Instructor.  

 After retiring from the Military and entering the civilian world, he has celebrated upwards of 15 years as a Paralegal with the Shell Oil Company.  Additionally, James is a certified Realtor currently working with Walzel Properties.  His vast knowledge of legal and realty and experience in the housing market has served to aid veterans with identifying and obtaining housing within their needs and financial standing.  He enjoys working with people, and brings many skills from his military and civilian career to the veterans we work with. 

Mr. James Lopes has earned Navy/Marine Corps Medal/Meritorious Service Medal, Navy Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, Armed Forces Service Medal, W/M Device, Global War on Terrorism, and Iraq Campaign.
